World Environment Day: Small Actions for a Healthier Planet
Written by: Julia Trzcinska
Every year on 5 June, World Environment Day brings people together to raise awareness of the environmental challenges facing our planet and inspire action towards a more sustainable future.
From climate change and biodiversity loss to plastic pollution and ocean health, the environmental issues we face can feel overwhelming, but positive change starts with collective action. Whether it’s restoring natural habitats, protecting marine life or reducing waste, small actions taken consistently can create lasting impact.
At Work for Good, we believe businesses have an important role to play in supporting environmental change. By embedding charitable giving into everyday operations, companies can help fund organisations working to protect and restore our planet for future generations.
We’re proud to partner with charities across our network creating meaningful impact in this space:
- Surfers Against Sewage – campaigning to protect oceans, beaches and waterways from pollution.
- WWF – working globally to protect wildlife and tackle climate change.
- Friends of the Earth Charitable Trust – driving action for a fairer, greener future.
- Rewilding Britain – restoring nature and helping rewild landscapes across Britain.
- The Heart of England Forest – creating and conserving large-scale native woodland.
- Ocean Generation – inspiring action to protect ocean health.
- Just One Ocean – raising awareness of ocean conservation and sustainable living.
- TreeSisters – supporting global reforestation and women-led environmental action.
- Project Seagrass – protecting and restoring vital seagrass ecosystems.
- Young Sea Changers Scotland – empowering young people to protect Scotland’s seas.
- Marine Conservation Society – fighting for cleaner, healthier oceans.
- FareShare – reducing food waste while supporting communities in need.
These organisations are creating real environmental change every day — but their work depends on continued support beyond a single awareness day.
A gentle call to action for all of us:
Whether it’s reducing waste in your workplace, supporting conservation efforts or fundraising through your business, every action counts.
Together, we can help build a healthier, more sustainable future for people and planet.
