Carers Week: Recognising the People Who Care

Written by: Julia Trzcinska

Every day, millions of unpaid carers provide essential support to family members, partners and friends who need help due to illness, disability, mental health challenges or age-related conditions. Carers Week is a moment to recognise the invaluable role carers play, and to raise awareness of the challenges they often face behind the scenes.

From balancing work and finances, to managing their own wellbeing, caring responsibilities can have a significant impact on every aspect of life. Yet many carers continue to provide support quietly, without recognition or access to the help they need.

At Work for Good, we believe businesses can play an important role in supporting carers and the charities working tirelessly to provide practical care, emotional support and specialist services.

We’re proud to partner with charities across our network making a meaningful difference in this space:

  • Dementia UK – supporting families through specialist dementia care and Admiral Nurses.
  • Parkinson's UK – providing support and information for people living with Parkinson’s and their carers.
  • Sue Ryder – offering compassionate palliative, neurological and bereavement support.
  • The Myton Hospices – supporting patients and families through hospice and end-of-life care.
  • Acorns Children's Hospice – providing specialist care for children with life-limiting conditions and support for their families.
  • Alzheimer's Society – offering vital support and guidance for people affected by dementia and those caring for them.
  • Teenage Cancer Trust – supporting young people with cancer and the families and carers around them.

These organisations provide lifelines for carers across the UK but their work depends on continued support beyond a single awareness week.

A gentle call to action for all of us:

Whether it’s checking in on someone with caring responsibilities, creating more supportive workplaces, or fundraising through your business, small actions can make a meaningful difference to carers who give so much of themselves every day.

Together, we can help ensure carers feel recognised, supported and less alone.
