World Oceans Day: Protecting Our Oceans Together

Written by: Julia Trzcinska

Every year on 8 June, World Oceans Day shines a light on the importance of our oceans and the urgent need to protect them. Covering more than 70% of our planet, oceans play a vital role in sustaining life by regulating our climate, supporting biodiversity and providing livelihoods for millions of people around the world.

But our oceans are under increasing pressure from climate change and habitat destruction. World Oceans Day is a reminder that protecting marine environments is a shared responsibility, and that collective action can create meaningful change.

At Work for Good, we believe businesses have an important role to play in supporting organisations working to restore and protect ocean health. By embedding charitable giving into everyday business, companies can help fund conservation and education that make a real difference.

We’re proud to partner with charities across our network creating impact in this space:

Just One Ocean – raising awareness of ocean conservation and sustainable living.

Ocean Generation – inspiring action to protect and restore ocean health.

Marine Conservation Society – fighting for cleaner, healthier seas through campaigns and conservation work.

Project Seagrass – protecting and restoring vital seagrass ecosystems that support marine biodiversity and capture carbon.

Surfers Against Sewage – campaigning to tackle plastic pollution and protect waterways and coastlines.

Young Sea Changers Scotland – empowering young people to take action for Scotland’s seas.

From restoring marine habitats to reducing pollution and inspiring future generations, these organisations are helping to create a healthier future for our oceans and planet.

World Oceans Day is more than a moment. Whether it’s reducing plastic waste, supporting conservation projects or fundraising through your business, every action can help protect our seas for generations to come.

A gentle call to action for all of us:

Whether it’s reducing single-use plastic, learning more about ocean conservation, or supporting a marine charity through your business, small actions can create lasting change for our seas and coastlines.

Together, we can help protect our oceans for future generations.
