1. Breast Cancer Awareness Month
It’s the biggest charity awareness month you’re likely to see in October, and with good reason — over 55,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK. If you or your family have been personally affected by breast cancer, or if you’d like your brand to support women’s health, here are some charities who could really put your donations to good use in their work helping women with cancer.
Breast Cancer Haven
Breast Cancer Haven is the national charity that supports women through their breast cancer treatment. When breast cancer tries to rob a woman of her individuality, confidence or strength, they provide a tailored package of emotional, physical and practical support that helps her hold on to them. Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres

Each centre is a place where people with cancer, families and friends come to find relief, advice and immediate support in a very special and tranquil place with specialist cancer support staff on hand.

2. Baby Loss Awareness Week — 9th-15th October
Baby Loss Awareness Week aims to raise awareness about pregnancy and baby loss in the UK. Parents who have lost a baby come together with families and friends to commemorate the lives of babies who died during pregnancy, at or soon after birth and in infancy. The week is also a chance for charities and organisations to work together for change and improvements in policy, research, care and support available for anyone affected by baby loss.
If you’d like your business to support mums, babies and people affected by baby loss, Work for Good has some amazing charities on board.
Sands
Sands is a UK charity that works across the country to support anyone affected by the death of a baby; improve the care bereaved parents receive from health care and other professionals; and fund vital life saving research while working closely with other organisations to create a world where fewer babies die.

They aim to empower women with the latest advice, give them the confidence to express their concerns and, ultimately, save babies’ lives. Their award-winning wristbands can help you track kicks and movement episodes, making it easier to recognise a reduction or change and seek advice from your midwife.

3. World Mental Health Day — Thursday 10th October
The public conversation about mental health has never been more open and supportive — but there’s still a long way to go until issues like depression and anxiety are no longer stigmatised.
If you’re keen to support mental health causes through your business, we’ve got some great options you may not have heard of:
Matt Palmer Trust
The Matt Palmer Trust aims to improve the mental well-being of men and women across the UK and Ireland and fight the stigma associated with mental illness — using the engagement and enjoyment of sport as the key to improving mental health.
From organising sports matches to building new playgrounds, they aim to ensure sport is accessible to everyone and nobody with a mental health problem has to suffer alone.

Sport in Mind
Like the Matt Palmer Trust, the aim of Sport in Mind is simple — to provide supported sport and physical activity programmes to help aid the recovery of people experiencing mental health problems. They also help to combat social isolation and empower individuals to move their lives forward in a positive direction through the connections created by sport.
Sport in Mind deliver all our programmes in partnership with the NHS, enabling them to reach the most vulnerable people in our society. To date Sport in Mind has used sport to help aid the recovery of over 10,000 people

4. UK National Arthritis Week — 7th — 13th October
Finally, this October you could support a cause that affects over 400 thousand people in the UK — arthritis. Though it’s often seen as a disease mainly experienced by older people, there are actually over 200 types of arthritis, affecting children, the elderly, and everyone in-between.
National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society
The NRAS provides information, support and advice to people living with arthritis — and helps to improve the standard of medical care across the UK for everybody affected by the disease.
