How a business consultant is working for good

“When I tell people that I give to charity through my business, I am confirming to them that my business is here to benefit all of society which is really the purpose of every business, if you think about it! I am able to improve my own reputation and people want to work with me because they know that in a way they are giving back as well”.

How a business consultant is working for good

We invited Lee Lam to talk to us about what makes Work for Good the perfect charity-giving partner for her business, Lee Lam Consultancy Ltd.

Tell us a bit about Lee Lam?

I am a disruptor consultant. I work with individuals and companies to drastically rethink their ‘status quo’ and to get their actions more in line with their desired outcomes.

What inspired you to join Work for Good?

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer of 2016 and this caused me to drastically rethink the work that I was doing — I wanted to not only use the skills I had amassed during 20 years of working in financial services and the 14 years of coaching to help people succeed, but I also wanted to give back in a way that felt meaningful. I wanted my work to help others do theirs.

How does Lee Lam Services give through Work for Good?

In 2018, I pledged to give 10 % of every invoice I raised between March and December to the charity that supported me during my cancer treatment — the Chartwell Cancer Trust. I also organised an event where the ticket price was offered back to the charity of their choice, which allowed me to not only give back but also let more people know of the Work for Good organisation.

What impact have you seen on your business since joining Work for Good?

I think it genuinely makes people rethink their ideas of what business has to mean. When I tell people that I give to charity through my business, I am confirming to them that my business is here to benefit all of society which is really the purpose of every business, if you think about it! I am able to improve my own reputation and people want to work with me because they know that in a way they are giving back as well.

How will you build giving into your business model for 2019?

I really want to continue with the % donation pledge from last year, but I also feel that there is an opportunity to attach it to the events and launches I do as part of my business, where it can gain more exposure and highlight this important work even more.

We loved talking to Lee! If you’d like to find out more about Work for Good please do get in touch.
