Give to Gain: Turning International Women’s Day into Year-Round Impact.
Written by: Julia Trzcinska
Every year on 8 March, International Women’s Day (IWD) brings the world together to celebrate women’s achievements and accelerate progress toward gender equality. The 2026 campaign theme, “Give to Gain,” reminds us that progress accelerates when we intentionally share time, skills, resources and support with one another. By lifting each other up, we all benefit: stronger communities, more equitable organisations, and fuller opportunities for women and girls everywhere.
But while progress has been made, inequality and injustice remain deeply rooted. As The Orchid Project states:
International Women's Day is a call to confront the injustices that still harm 230 million women and girls globally. This day is a powerful reminder that every girl and woman has the right to bodily autonomy, health and dignity.
At Work for Good, we’re proud to work with charities whose missions align with this spirit of empowerment and justice. Many in our network are advancing women’s rights, safety and wellbeing throughout the year, including:
- Women's Aid - frontline support and refuge for women escaping violence
- Refuge - safe accommodation and specialist programmes for survivors
- The Fawcett Society - campaigning for equality in law, pay and representation
- Wellbeing of Women - research and education to improve women’s health outcomes
- Orchid Project - global advocacy to end Female Genital Mutilation
- TreeSisters - empowering women to lead environmental regeneration
These organisations are champions of lasting impact, and they need support beyond a single day of recognition.
A gentle call to action for all of us:
Today is a moment to reflect - but let’s also commit to sustained support. Whether through sales giving partnerships, recurring donations, or ongoing advocacy, our collective efforts can make meaningful change for women and girls throughout the year.
Let’s celebrate progress, and keep pushing for justice, equity and opportunity for all.
