This Sunday we will see people all over the world celebrating International Women’s Day; a global day which recognises the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

To mark the occasion we wanted to highlight some of the incredible women’s charities that your business can support via Work for Good.

Plan International UK

Plan International is a global children’s charity, who work to give every child the same chance in life. They provide access to essential services, including education, healthcare, clean water and toilets as well as providing emergency relief when disasters happen.

They are also dedicated to improving girls’ lives globally. By working with young people, they’re challenging gender inequality, campaigning against harmful practices like child marriage and enabling girls everywhere to build a better future.

So far they have helped over 83,000 children in 48 countries and they have reached 8 million people around the world with their work in 2018–19.

Women for Women International

Women for Women International supports women who live in some of the world’s most dangerous places. Women enrol on the charity’s year-long training programme, where they learn how to earn and save money, improve their family’s health and make their voices heard at home and in their community.

The charity has helped more than 479,000 marginalised women survivors of war in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kosovo, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Sudan.

Contact provides accommodation and practical support for homeless teenage girls who may have experienced relationship breakdowns, domestic violence, forced marriage, threatened abduction as well as physical and emotional abuse.

Their vital work includes helping to support young women with the next stage, whether they want to return to education, start a job or explore training opportunities. So far they have helped over 800 young women get back on their feet, and help them move onto better, happier futures.

Womankind

Womankind is a mental health charity run by women for women. Their services include: counselling, group therapy, specialist sexual violence and abuse services, trauma counselling for refugees and trafficked women (with interpreters), befriending, a specialist Deaf women’s counselling service, and a telephone and web-chat helpline. Their helpline handles around 5,000 calls and 700 emails a year; a third of the callers to it have suffered sexual abuse/ sexual assault or rape, or domestic abuse.
