Earth Day: How Businesses Can Help The Environment.

1.png
It's surely our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth."

- Sir David Attenborough

In 2022 every business is expected to show they are taking steps to help the environment. And with 'Invest In Our Planet' being this years theme for Earth Day 2022 (April 22nd) businesses have the chance to step up and demonstrate their commitment to a better future for the planet.

But how can businesses do this in a meaningful way?

For many businesses taking climate action may seem overwhelming and unattainable. But any business can help to protect the planet simply by raising funds for charity through their sales (read about 14 environmental charities to support here). This type of fundraising is called sales-fundraising (sometimes referred to as cause-marketing) and it is when a business donates a percentage of sales of a product or service to a nonprofit . By launching a sales fundraising campaign businesses will not only raise much-needed funds to help our planet but also:

✔️Raise awareness of important and complex environmental issues.

✔️ Educate others by promoting climate literacy so more people will strive to protect the planet.

✔️ Build environmental credentials

✔️ Have more positive conversations with customers.

Why Support A Charity?

Tackling climate change and conservation is complex and it requires carefully considered, planned and scientifically led solutions.

Environmental and conservation charities have the ability and expertise to take tangible actions to protect the environment and tackle the climate crisis. These nonprofits are often run by academics and environmental experts with teams of researchers that have the scientific knowledge, combined with tried and tested infrastructure to put the necessary climate solutions in place. But they need vital funding and support to do this.

Fundraise sustainably through your sales but do it legally.

Raising money through sales is a sustainable way for businesses to support charities and causes they care about. But to do this, every business must have a legal agreement in place with the charity it wants to support. This is called a Commercial Participation Agreement and it is charity law to have one. This legal requirement was created to protect charities as well as businesses and their customers.

Hundreds of UK charities including Friends of The Earth, WWF-UK, Surfers Against Sewage, Cool Earth, Marine Conservation Society and various local Wildlife Trusts use Work for Good to help them make it really easy for businesses to set these up. Through our easy-to-use online donation form businesses can set up the Commercial Participation Agreement with the charity they want to support within minutes. This means businesses can start fundraising through their sales legally with just a few clicks.
