Inspired by the Ocean: How Nalu Beads Turns Handmade Jewellery into Giving Back

For Nalu Beads, creativity and craftsmanship are closely connected to a love of the ocean and the natural world.

Owned by Rae Davis, Nalu Beads creates handmade glass beads and silver jewellery inspired by coastlines, sea life and the beauty of the outdoors. Working from their studio in North Devon, the business combines artisan craftsmanship with a desire to support causes that protect both people and the planet.

As a small business we like to support charities who do their best to make a difference to the lives of others and our environment.

Nalu Beads supports a wide range of charities through Work for Good, including Surfers Against Sewage, Ocean Generation, WWF-UK, and Bumblebee Conservation Trust, in addition to some non-member charities including Children’s Hospice South West and Dogs Trust. Many of the causes they support are closely linked to environmental protection and ocean conservation - something that naturally aligns with the inspiration behind their products.

We support a variety of charities, most of them ocean based like Surfers Against Sewage and Ocean Generation.

Giving is built directly into the products they create. Nalu Beads donates £2 from every charity bead sold, while handcrafted bracelets and necklaces linked to those collections generate £5 donations.

The approach allows customers to support causes they care about while choosing meaningful gifts or additions to their own collections.

“We find that our customers love to add our charity beads to their collections - they feel that they can give back whilst treating themselves or friends.”

As a small independent business, Rae explains that the ability to make regular donations in a manageable and sustainable way is important.

“We can’t offer big financial donations as a very small independent business but we like to offer what we can through the special products we make to represent the charities we love.”

Work for Good has helped make that process simple and accessible, particularly for businesses making smaller but consistent contributions.

“It’s an easy convenient platform especially when you only donate smaller amounts.”

For Nalu Beads, charitable giving is about creating products with meaning - connecting customers to causes that matter and showing how even small businesses can make a positive impact over time.

Key Takeaway:

Nalu Beads shows how handmade products inspired by nature can help support environmental and community causes - turning thoughtful purchases into ongoing charitable impact.
