The Wickham Pantry continues to grow and help families
The Wickham Pantry is growing every week! Although we only set up just over a year ago, we now have more than 300 members. Thanks to initial funding from Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council, we were able to start from scratch and set up the pantry in 2021.
Over the past year, the cost of living has risen and everyone has less money to spend on essentials.
Our community shop is based at the community centre and run by wonderful volunteers. They collect surplus food from supermarkets, set up the stock, met and greet our members, and undertake many other essential tasks. We also
The community association currently subsidises the pantry, as membership income doesn't cover all the overheads, so we have a constant search for grants and donations.
We are now supporting more than 90 families every week, supplying hugely discounted food and other essential household goods - and we never turn anyone away. This week we welcomed seven new Ukrainian members to the pantry.
We are preparing new cookery sessions for pantry members, with hints and tips for cooking with less fuel and other money-saving tricks.
