About us
Thread Ahead supports refugees and asylum seekers across Greater London, providing them with brand new clothes, toiletries and accessories in spaces which look more like shops than clothing banks. By taking an approach which centres dignity, this supports the mental health of our visitors too, enabling them to feel confident as they build new lives in the UK.
We work with brands and businesses across the UK who donate stock which they cannot sell to us, instead of sending it to landfill or incineration. This includes end of season surplus, sample pieces, mis-sized items and items with very minor faults.
In the process, we reduce the fashion and toiletries industries' contribution to the climate crisis while meeting the essential needs of people who have had to flee their home countries. We don't believe brand new, good quality items should be incinerated or sent to landfill when they could be redirected to people in need.
£15 pays for a family seeking asylum to attend one of our events. £30 enables one refugee to receive items from across a year. £100 covers the cost of transporting the clothing, toiletries and accessories to one of our events. £1,000 covers the cost of an entire event, providing items to 160 refugees and asylum seekers plus their children.
