Don’t Lose Your Way – Saving lost paths

Don’t Lose Your Way – Saving lost paths

We've searched all of England and Wales and found over 49,000 miles of paths that could be lost forever.

The Government have set a deadline of 1 January 2026 for us to save these paths. After that date we will no longer be able to claim rights of way based on historic evidence. This means that any paths that are not legally recorded, and which have been historically used as a right of way, could be at risk of being lost forever.

Time is running out to save these paths for future generations. With the help of thousands of supporters, we searched historic maps across the country and found over 49,000 miles of paths which could be lost forever. These paths have been added to our online map to help volunteers identify, prioritise, and save them. Celebrating Great Britain's Coast

Celebrating Great Britain's Coast

The England Coast Path is our most ambitious path creation work to date - a continuous, signposted trail around the entire coastline of England. Once completed, it will be the world's longest continuous coastal path, at over 2,700 miles.

This landmark project is the result of almost 20 years of campaigning, mapping, and surveying by the Ramblers and our partners. But the job is not done - with around 2,000 miles of path still to open. Will you help ensure this incredible gift to the nation is delivered? Visit ramblers.org.uk/coastpath to find out more.
