About us

THE ISSUE: Every day on today's factory farms, around 130 billion animals live short, miserable lives in the most unnatural and inhumane conditions possible. Mistreatment, illness, injury, and premature death are common. Those who survive often spend their last minutes in terror and pain.

It doesn't have to be this way.

OUR SOLUTION: We hold corporations accountable, educate and empower activists, and we campaign to create change. Over the years, we've taken on the world's largest food companies, urging them to produce meaningful animal welfare policies - and won. These commitments from companies are already impacting the lives of 50 million chickens in the UK every year.

Of course, individual behaviour change goes hand in hand with institutional change. That’s why we work relentlessly to empower people with knowledge. To open their eyes to the horrifying ways in which animals are treated on factory farms. To become activists and leave animals off our plates, advocating for plant-based options.

MAXIMUM IMPACT: All of our work is rooted in sound research and a commitment to effective animal protection. The Humane League has been chosen as one of the most effective animal groups worldwide by Animal Charity Evaluators. We are the only organisation to receive this distinction for every rating period.
