The Heart of England Forest

The Heart of England Forest is an exciting and ambitious charity. We want to help reverse centuries of woodland decline and create and conserve a magnificent 30,000 acre broadleaf forest for the benefit of the environment, wildlife and people. A place of enduring natural beauty, protected and secured for generations to come.

About us

The Heart of England Forest covers a mosaic of habitats across 7,000 acres of land in Warwickshire and Worcestershire, including 4,450 acres of new woodland and 600 acres of mature and ancient woodland.

At just 23% of the way towards our 30,000 acre goal, we are already the largest new native broadleaf woodland in England.

We establish and grow the Forest on land that we have purchased to ensure it is safe and protected for hundreds of years to come. So far, we have planted 2 million trees. Tree planting on this scale makes a significant positive environmental impact, creating a huge carbon sink and helping to mitigate climate change. Further environmental and social impacts of planting include water purification and flood alleviation.

Important as they are, the Forest is more than just trees; it is an incredible mosaic of habitats helping to boost diversity for plants, animals and people, and also includes grassland, heathland, farmland and wetland. Spending time in nature improves physical and mental health, and we hope that by developing a relationship with the Forest people will be inspired to care for their environment on both a local and a global level.

Our Forest learning programmes deliver significant benefits for our schools and their pupils – strengthening core knowledge, relationships, skills for learning and skills for life. These long term impacts are not achieved through one off visits. We work closely with our school partners to develop progressive programmes that deliver the curriculum (maths, literacy, science, history, geography, art, DT etc) and achieve both academic and broader personal development outcomes.Over the course of a programme of visits, learners discover new interests and talents, but also learn more about themselves and how to collaborate with others.

“The partnership with the Heart of England Forest has enabled us to provide curriculum opportunities that we otherwise would not have been able to, and we have been able to broaden our pupils’ horizons." Ark Kings Academy, Birmingham
