10 Reasons to Support The Eve Appeal

10 Reasons to Support The Eve Appeal

At The Eve Appeal, people affected by gynaecological cancers are at the core of everything we do.

Here are 10 simple reasons to support The Eve Appeal:

1. Every day in the UK 58 women and people with gynae organs are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer and 21 will die. The Eve Appeal are determined to realise a future where gynae cancers are diseases of the past.

2. We are the only national charity raising awareness and funds to specifically for the prevention and early detection of the five gynaecological cancers.

3. Our research has already achieved major breakthroughs towards improving survival rates of women and people with gynaecological cancers through pioneering research into screening, early diagnosis and risk prediction.

4. With our scientists and medics, we are united in the vision to significantly reduce the current 40% mortality rate from gynaecological cancers and save more lives.

5. Less than 6% of cancer research funding goes towards prevention research, even though we know this is the area where we can make the biggest impact to survival.

6. Awareness of gynaecological cancers is shockingly low, many people do not even know there are five: womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval, and vaginal, and lots of the families we speak to hear of a gynaecological for the first time at the point that it affects them.

7. There is a lot of shame and stigma surrounding women’s bodies and gynaecological cancers. Helping us to break the taboos around gynae health so that everyone knows their normal and are comfortable talking about any changes will encourage women and people with gynae organs to get the medical help they need, when they need it.

8. Our research funding supports innovative early stage projects where conventional research funding is harder to find.

9. Although we are a small charity our contribution is disproportionately large as we fund innovative new research and cover gaps in funding which allows projects to maintain momentum. A panel of independent scientists estimated that for every £1 invested by The Eve Appeal, £14 was leveraged from other sources.

10. Our research is international and highly collaborative. We fund research at University College London, University of Cambridge, University of Manchester, University of Southern California and Harvard Medical School and at 9 leading European institutions. One of our programmes is a recipient of prestigious EC Horizon2020 funding for research and innovation and we couldn’t have done that without your support.
