About us
The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) is a UK charity solely dedicated to helping families affected by a rare eye cancer. We: - Provide support and information to families and individuals - Fund research into the prevention and treatment of eye cancers such as retinoblastoma - Raise awareness among health professionals and the public - Influence policy to improve services for patients
We know that when a child is diagnosed with cancer, it can be a frightening and distressing time for everyone. We are here to help. We also understand the longer-term impact of having a cancer so young and so we offer lifelong support to anyone affected - from diagnosis to adulthood.
100% of families in the UK are offered support throughout treatment. Our support workers at the Royal London Hospital and Birmingham Children's Hospital provide practical advice and coping methods, emotional support, help problem-solve and assist with financial support. They also provide guidance through schooling, during transition to adulthood and beyond, and help to answer questions about issues in later life like managing artificial eyes and genetic screening.
We also bring together families and individuals to share experiences and information in relaxed and informal settings - both in personal and virtually. The events bring together newly diagnosed families and older children, young adults and grandparents who feel they have something to offer to others or just want to meet and socialise.
