About us
We are a London-based charity committed to promoting contemporary Africa through education, arts, entrepreneurship, innovation, and culture. Established in 1964 to foster non-governmental relations between newly independent Africa and Britain, we aim to encourage positive conversations about Africa. Our mission is to educate, connect, and advocate for Africa and its diaspora. entrepreneurship, innovation, and culture.
WHAT WE DO
Vision & Mission We are dedicated to forming meaningful, collaborative partnerships founded on mutual respect, empathy, and integrity. By engaging closely with our diverse communities, we seek to change narratives about Africa and foster informed, empowered alliances. Our approach promotes equality, accountability, and sustainability, encouraging lasting social impact and transformative change while prioritising environmental responsibility. The Five Pillars of activity guide our work:
- Culture
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation
- Education
- Intellectual Leadership
- Community
These core pillars form the foundation of our work. They guide our programmes, influence our outreach, and are evident in our space and events. We highlight the best of Africa’s emerging talent— from artists and writers to entrepreneurs and thinkers—through engaging, Africa-inspired experiences.
At the heart of The Africa Centre’s strategic direction is the theme of The Global African. This powerfully articulates our mission to be a ‘home away from home’ for Africa and its global diaspora. This theme reflects our dedication to showcasing, celebrating, and connecting the diversity of African identities, experiences, and contributions across the world; highlighting and illuminating the excellence of African people and the unique qualities that define African achievement.
