About us
Cancer can affect anyone’s life, at any time. In fact, 1 in 2 people born in the UK will get cancer in their lifetime.* So we only have one option: accelerate life-saving research.
That’s why donations and fundraising are vital, as they help speed up life-saving cancer research. Research that will get new tests and treatments to people who need them the most. Research that means more lives saved.
We are inspired by the real people who Stand Up To Cancer every day, in their own unique ways, all over the UK. Just like Professor Aymen Al-Shamkhani and his team, pictured in the image above, who hope to develop new ways of treating cancer by boosting the natural, cancer-fighting ability of white blood cells. When we raise money, we’re doing our bit to help these researchers, and many more like them.
That’s why now is the time to Stand Up To Cancer. The donations you give will help us achieve our ambition to see 3 in 4 people in the UK survive their cancer by 2034.
Examples of how your support can help:
£100: buys a chemical tape measure that lets Stand Up To Cancer scientists find the size of DNA molecules, information that could reveal crucial clues about how to beat cancer.
£500: buys one DNA sequencing experiment, helping Stand Up To Cancer scientists uncover the genetic blueprint of a cancer cell’s DNA. This allows the scientists to find cancer’s weaknesses, which could make treatments more effective than ever.
£1,000: could support a researcher in the lab for a full week, providing them with everything they need to stand up to cancer.
£10,000: could support a lab technician for 4 months as they develop a drug that acts as a molecular freeze ray to stop cancer cells from spreading around the body.
