About us
Most people think that leprosy is a disease of the past but sadly, they are mistaken.
Every two minutes someone is diagnosed with leprosy; that’s over seven hundred people a day, including 10,000 children a year.
But anyone with undiagnosed leprosy is at risk of developing serious, life changing disabilities and spreading the disease within their community.
A lack of understanding about leprosy can lead to stigma, discrimination and social isolation for those with the disease, meaning people are often frightened to come forward for testing.
But leprosy is easily diagnosed and completely curable which means an end to leprosy could be achieved in our lifetime.
ABOUT ST FRANCIS LEPROSY GUILD
Our mission is to end the suffering caused by leprosy.
Inspired by our patron saint, St Francis of Assisi, we have cared for people with leprosy for almost 130 years. The donations we receive from our community of supporters are crucial to carrying out our work, and we direct these gifts to wherever the need is greatest.
This could include providing medical support for those experiencing disability from leprosy, supporting families who have experienced rejection or discrimination from their community, or training healthcare workers to increase detection and treatment rates across their community.
Every gift we receive enables us to continue or expand our work to improve the lives of those affected by leprosy.
Thank you for supporting our work and taking us a step closer to a world without leprosy.
