What we do with your support?

What we do with your support?

We rely on support from individuals, companies and grants to ensure that we can continue our work to support nature's recovery and connect local communities with green spaces.

Here's just a few of our projects which your support helps with:

-Creating habitat for wildlife to thrive: We manage 15 nature reserves. All are open to the public but we need to make sure that they remain accessible and that the habitat is managed appropriately. £100 helps us plant and care for 20 trees, £150 buys an owl box, £1500 allows us to pay a months worth of volunteer expenses so that it is accessible for anyone to volunteer.

-Wild at Heart: There is a growing epidemic of loneliness in older people which has only been made worse by the Covid pandemic. Our Wild at Heart programme is a friendly, supportive nature based activity session for adults, helping people to improve wellbeing and personal resilience through building a connection to nature and meeting other people. Many of the Wild at Heart participant's that attend these free weekly sessions, live alone, have complex health conditions or may struggle with mobility. The average age of a Wild at Heart participant is 79. Your donations keep these sessions free so that isolated people can keep and join this vital network of support.

-Outdoor Learning: In the poorest areas of Sheffield and Rotherham we know that some children have never experienced the wild spaces on their doorstep. This happens for a number of reasons including families feeling excluded or lacking the confidence to explore outdoors. Our engagement team are able to take classes to our nature reserves for them to experience nature and inspire the next generation. £12.50 can pay for a trip for a child, larger donations allow us to put on free transport and provide resources to involve children in rewilding their own school grounds.

-Nature Friendly Farming @ Ughill: We have temporarily saved 132 hectares or farmland which we will be able to manage as a showcase site that allows sustainable farming to work alongside habitat for nature; saving nationally declining species like curlew and golden plover that rely on this land. Your donations will help secure this site for the future and allow us to set it up to show how farming can be done in a sustainable and regenerative way.

*Collaboration is the best way to make things happen! *

As part of becoming Abbeydale Brewery's 2023 Charity of the Year we came together to brew a special beer, Swifty. Brewed in recognition of the amazing migratory journey that swifts make from Africa to the UK to breed every year, they combined UK hops Fuggles and Keyworth Early with African grains of paradise for a unique and aromatic beer with an gentle yet enticing botanical spice. 10p from each sale is donated to Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust to suport projects such as our mission to make Sheffield a 'Swift City'.
