THE FUTURE STARTS ON AN AFRICAN FARM
Ripple Effect works with farming families in six African countries so that they can learn more, grow more, and sell more.
Rural Africa is rich with opportunity: with resourceful communities, and land from which food and futures can grow. But families face poverty that is extreme, unjust, and worst of all – unnecessary.
We’re creating a ripple of positive change in rural Africa. It starts with bringing farmers together to learn new skills and share knowledge, so they can improve their livelihoods and thrive.
As each farmer works with Ripple Effect, they then share what they know, and what they have, with their families and communities. For every family we work with, three more families benefit too. Soon thousands experience the benefits, and everyone is able to thrive.
HOW WE WORK
Farming the land: families learn sustainable farming techniques to create productive, biodiverse farms that are adapted to the changing climate and have a climate-positive impact. In time, their farms will be able to provide enough food for the whole family, plus a surplus to sell.
Including everyone: men and women are encouraged to work together: sharing workloads and decision-making more equally. Through projects designed to reach people of different needs and abilities and across the generations, the whole community has the opportunity of a better future for themselves and their families.
Business skills: family farmers are supported to grow their farms as a business and take control of their own futures. Farmers learn how to add value to their crops so that they can generate a sustainable income.
WHERE WE WORK
Ripple Effect works in six African countries: Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia.
We are a partnership of resourceful farming families working with our experienced and committed African staff, who are based in our Country Programmes and our Africa Hub in Nairobi, with support and fundraising from our offices in the UK and US.
