Our Time

Our Time is a charity that helps young people whose parents have a mental illness by increasing their resilience. When a parent suffers from a mental illness, it is rare for anyone – parent, teacher, or even social worker – to know how to discuss the illness with the child. The children are often confused and frightened. In England alone, it’s estimated that 2.9 million children and young people live with a parent who has reported symptoms of anxiety and depression – and that figure doesn’t capture the whole of the UK. At present most receive no support.

About us

Our Time is the only voice for children and young people who have a parent with a mental illness. We train local community teams to run multi-family workshops to support the children, offering them a safe space and a good explanation. We also work in schools to equip the staff to support this group of very vulnerable children.

However, we can’t do it without you. Every donation we receive, no matter how large or small, is put towards changing the lives of young people who have a parent with a mental illness.

We rely on charitable donations and foundation grants to keep our work going because there is no other support for this hidden group.

£25 could help a family travel to our workshops for vital support £50 could provide two hours of staff time supporting a group of families £100 could provide a school training session to help students feel supported

Thank you for your support.
