About us

Today more than two million children are at risk of starting their day hungry. This threatens the health, wellbeing and contribution of a whole generation. Hungry children cannot concentrate or access their education, if we don’t do something, they will miss out on the opportunity to learn, thrive and reach their potential.

Magic Breakfast works with schools in disadvantaged areas of the UK to give hungry children a nutritious meal at the start of their day. Our stigma-free breakfast provision ensures that every child is nourished, settled and ready to learn, improving educational outcomes for the most disadvantaged children as well as the whole school community.

2021 marks 20 years since our Founder, Carmel McConnell MBE, began delivering breakfast food to five schools in East London. Since then, we have significantly expanded our operations and are now working with over 1,000 schools across England and Scotland, providing 175,000 children with a healthy breakfast each school day.

When schools first closed due to Covid-19, we quickly adapted our “in school” breakfast model to provide take-home breakfast packs and, where needed, deliveries direct to children’s homes. For the first time we also extended our breakfast provision through the school holidays in response to an urgent and desperate need. Our at-home breakfast provision has continued into 2021, alongside socially distanced breakfasts for those children back at school.

As we move into our 2021, our support has never been vital. For parents on furlough or who have lost their job, often the only saving they can make is on food. At the same time, the attainment gap is the largest it has been in decades and thousands of disadvantaged children are set to return to school significantly behind their wealthier peers.

With your support we can ensure that these children have the fuel they need to access their education and reach their potential A huge heartfelt thank you for your support in helping us move closer to a society where no child starts their day too hungry to learn.
