About us
As the cost of living continues to rise, new statistics on hunger and food insecurity are becoming increasingly alarming. The latest Food Insecurity Tracker from the Food Foundation has found that 4 million children are at risk of starting their day hungry. This threatens the health, well-being, and contribution of a whole generation. Hungry children cannot concentrate or access their education, if we don’t do something, they will miss out on the opportunity to learn, thrive, and reach their potential.
Magic Breakfast works with schools in disadvantaged areas of the UK to give hungry children a nutritious meal at the start of their day. Our stigma-free breakfast provision ensures that every child is nourished, settled, and ready to learn, improving educational outcomes for the most disadvantaged children as well as the whole school community.
As we move into 2023, our support has never been more vital. Findings from the Food Foundation paint a picture of growing hardship for households across the UK, and that households with children are being hit the hardest and are bearing the brunt of rising costs and dwindling resources. The speed and degree to which costs are rising simply mean these households do not have enough money to make ends meet and are being forced to cut back on the quantity, quality, and nutritional value of the food they purchase just to get by. At the same time, the attainment gap is the largest it has been in decades with the gap between disadvantaged primary school pupils and their peers widening to its largest in 10 years. Hungry children are simply unable to focus, learn, concentrate, or even stay awake in class as well as their well-nourished classmates
We know that having a nutritious breakfast has a significant impact on educational achievement, so we are dedicated to making sure no child starts their school day feeling hungry or undernourished, with three main objectives in mind: 1. We aim to ensure a nutritious and filling breakfast is provided to as many pupils at risk of hunger as possible. 2. Build a movement to push for a solution to end child morning hunger. 3. Operate efficiently and responsibly with greater internal and external collaboration.
With your support we can ensure that these children have the fuel they need to access their education and reach their potential A huge heartfelt thank you for your support in helping us move closer to a society where no child starts their day too hungry to learn.
