About us
Lifeshare is a grassroots charity in Manchester focusing on the needs of the city's vulnerable populations. We are continually listening to the needs of our service users to adapt and change to find and mitigate current challenges and find timely, safe, and needed solutions. Our service has many arms including:
CRISIS SUPPORT Our Crisis Intervention service works with young people aged 16-25 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness or exploitation. We work with a person centred approach to build a personal plan to look after the physical and mental wellbeing of the young person as well as finding safe, stable accommodation and helping them to find employment or access education.
FOOD POVERTY Lifeshare serves hot breakfasts for anyone in need every Saturday and Sunday from Manchester's city centre. This volunteer staffed project provides not just a meal, but also a social intervention. This safe place helps rough sleepers and other vulnerable parties with regular which can help develop trust which can lead to the accessing of support services. We also offer hot showers and dry clothes along with takeaway meals.
In the Autumn of 2022 we are expanding this service to Friday mornings. We will offer a hot meal and then a morning and afternoon workshop and drop-in series along with a lunch offering. Planned workshops include art therapy, CV writing, and building confidence for interviews. We are working with GPs, optometrists, dentists, podiatrists, barbers, and hair dressers to host regular drop-ins in the space to help attendees access their services.
DIGITAL INCLUSION In 2019 Lifeshare saw the move to take many vital services digital whilst so many of the people we supported lacked digital access and skills. We formed the Manchester Digital Collective. The MDC which now has 13 member organisations, recycles digital devices to redistribute them with data packages to promote access to the benefits of the digital world. We also run skill building workshops and have build an online skills platform that partner organisations can utilise to walk clients through the basics of digital literacy.
MANCHESTER'S ONLY 7-DAY CHRISTMAS PROVISION Lifeshare has hosted the city's only 7 -day indoor Christmas offering. We open on December 23rd and provide three hot meals each day along with access to showers, art therapy, medical support, service referrals and social inclusion. Attendees report that the project is a lifeline during what can be an isolating time of year providing companionship as well as the physical resources provided.
