Keeping families together

We know how important it is to be with someone you love when you are going through a tough time. That is why our planes and road ambulances have enough space for a parent to accompany their child whilst travelling between hospitals 💙✈

With your support we flew Thomas from Hastings to Middlesbrough after he was born prematurely, over 300 miles from home 💙

Thomas is the first child to use our brand new Transporter+ Trolley that was developed with Paraid. This provided Thomas with a smooth transfer between hospitals and ensured our flight teams didn’t have to manually lift any part of our incubator. We’re excited for more children to benefit from this incredible piece of equipment! ✨

About us

Lia's wings (formerly Lucy Air Ambulance for Children) is the only charity in the UK that funds flights for children to hospital by aeroplane. Each week a child is referred to our service needing a transfer by plane between hospitals.

Our transfers mean that:

Children can access life-saving specialist care and surgery, including organ transplants. 
Premature babies can be moved in our incubator to receive neonatal care close to home.  
Children who are nearing end of life can be taken to a hospital/hospice closer to home. 
Families are reunited and parent’s mental health improves.

Any parent with a seriously ill child just wants their child to get better. We make sure they are in the right place, to get the right treatment, at the right time.

We work in partnership with air ambulance providers and NHS transport teams throughout the UK by providing the funding to make these flights happen. The NHS does not have any budget for air ambulance transfers and relies on Lucy AAC to provide this essential service at no cost. Without our service, many children would not have access to the essential specialist treatment and care they need - which in many cases is life-saving.
