Furnishing Futures CIO

Furnishing Futures fully furnishes the homes of women and children who have escaped domestic abuse and been rehoused in empty flats, or are experiencing furniture poverty. We do this by partnering with the interiors industry to reduce waste and save good quality products from landfill, which we use to create healing homes for women and children in need.

About us

We are a new small charity based in East London that creates fully furnished and decorated healing homes for women and children who have experienced domestic abuse and been rehoused in empty social housing, or who are living with furniture poverty. We do this by partnering with the interiors industry to save good quality furnishings from landfill, reusing them to create safe, comfortable and beautiful homes for the women and children we support.

More than half a million children in England don't have a bed and millions of people are experiencing furniture poverty. Social housing is given without flooring, window coverings, white goods or furniture and buying furniture is the primary reason social housing tenants get into debt. We believe that having a safe and comfortable home that meets all your needs is the foundation to recovery from trauma, and supports women to be able to rebuild their lives knowing that they and their children can sleep well at night, cook a proper meal or have friends and family to visit.

Established by interior designer and former frontline social worker Emily Wheeler in late 2019 and registered as a charity in November 2021, we are a small new charity that is creating big social impact.
