Freedom helps people in deprived areas of the North Midlands who are struggling with poverty. We run drop-in sessions at 14 centres operated by volunteers providing food banks, free cafés, practical advice and support for poverty-related issues, life skills activities, therapeutic counselling and employment support.

About us

Freedom helps people who are struggling with poverty. We offer free cafés to break social isolation, food banks for groceries and personal hygiene items, practical help with complex social issues from our support team, therapeutic counselling and life skills activities.

We don't tell people what to do, we help them identify the solutions to their problems and support them through our activities and services. This approach and the opportunities we offer are successful; they improve self-worth, reduce mental ill-health, change extreme behaviour patterns, combat loneliness, and encourage resilience and positive decision making.

Freedom was founded in Bolsover in 2012 in response to community distress at the high levels of deprivation and lack of services in the area. We now have 14 drop-in centres across 3 counties in the North Midlands where our team of 200 volunteers welcome over 3,000 people a year.
