About us
Hello!
We are Fletcher’s Fund and we’d love the opportunity to tell you about who Fletcher was, who we are and the work we do.
Fletcher was my first-born son, and I could not have wanted for a more engaging and charismatic child. He was the kind of child that left an impact, and as you will no doubt deduce from my use of past tenses, he is no longer with us.
Sadly, Fletcher died just before his second birthday of an incredibly rare, undiagnosed type of cancer. That’s not to say that we did not fight for him to survive, for we did, fiercely, with a team of dedicated professionals from our heroic NHS. They gave us 14 months extra with him, and for that we are eternally grateful.
So from Fletcher’s passing, Fletcher’s Fund was borne. We are a childhood cancer charity, specialising in all the fun stuff in life! We make art therapy, play therapy and memory making our daily mission and we do it in Fletcher’s name.
We are a small, grassroots charity based in Carlisle, Cumbria but operating nationwide with our range of projects and grant giving operations. We are small but mighty!
The idea for Fletcher’s Fund was borne from the desire to give him a legacy. To ensure that his life wasn’t in vain, and that he would be remembered. So he would continue to be loved, and to live through the charity that bears his name. It was borne from grief.
It grew then to wanting to teach Fletcher’s little brothers about him. But also to teach them, and our friend’s and family’s children about charitable work, and about working hard to achieve a dream. It became a teaching tool.
We want to give back to the world we were so suddenly thrust into, that became our life. We wanted to reach as many families with children with cancer as possible, to provide relief of the financial burden from them, to enable them to make precious memories together. We want to provide joy, laughter, love and memories.
It is about hope. It is about ambition, positivity, passion and dedication. We are on a journey to share our story and work to achieve our aims.
And we won’t stop whilst there is a need for us. Whilst there continues to be children with cancer needing our help, we will be here to offer a helping hand in the darkness. To do that though, we need funding, support and assistance.
We are Team Fletcher – and we would love for you to join us.
