About us
Our charity was founded in 1968 by parents of autistic children in their garden shed. They were determined that their children had the educational support they needed and established one of the first schools for autistic children in the UK.
We now provide significantly more education and support services to a greater number of adults and children who benefit from our expertise.
Working directly with and for autistic people, Portfield School and Sixth Form currently educate 110 children and young people from the ages of 4 to 19. Our Futures programme supports young adults aged 18-25 with independent living and employment. We provide adult services in both the community and our residential homes. Community Connect is our information and signposting service.
Importantly we also help support businesses and organisations as our autism awareness training provides an understanding of the needs of autistic employees and outlines simple adjustments to recruitment practices and workplace environments that will enable them to thrive.
