We are a cancer buddy service based in Milton Keynes cancer centre. We provide support to patients whilst they are receiving treatment, chat to patients in the wards and offer a buddying service to anyone that may need it. We can also offer advocacy, phone calls and support at home and end of life support for patients and their families. We also provide special gifts and events to the patients as well.

Al's Pals at home

Al's Pals are currently looking at venturing into patients home to provide our valuable befriending service. By offering that support in people's homes can make such a difference. Just having someone pop in for a chat and a cuppa can not only help and support the patient but the family as well, it allows them to have a little bit of breathing space. This is vital when supporting a loved one through cancer.

We are currently looking at raising vital funds to launch this project in Summer this year, we would appreciate any support you can provide.

Skydive 2021

This was us last year skydiving for Al's Pals. If you would like to participate in our skydiving event this year on Saturday July 24^th at Hinton skydiving centre then please get in touch info@alspalsmk.co.uk

This is definitely the best experience ever and we even have some skydivers repeating the experience this year. Join us and enjoy the most thrilling experience ever and raise vital funds to support cancer patients in Milton Keynes.

Night at the musicals update

Our night at the musicals was a huge success. We sold 65 tickets and raised an amazing £650. Thank you to all of those who attended and making our 1^st year anniversary so special

About us

Al's Pals started from an idea thanks to a patient receiving treatment in Milton Keynes. Alan had Prostate cancer and bone cancer for over 7 years before he sadly passed. During his time in and out of hospital he found that although he had loving family with him he still felt alone. No one quite knew or understood what he was going through and the stresses this can bring to a patient and their families. Before Alan passed, he asked his daughter Suzanne to see if there was a 'buddy' type of service in Milton Keynes. Suzanne did her research and found that there wasn't. When Alan sadly died, Suzanne made it her mission to start up a service in her dad's memory to help and support patients in as many ways as possible. Al's Pals was officially launched in 2020 with 16 volunteers all ready to support patients. All of Al's Pals volunteers have either had cancer or supported someone with cancer as it is vital that everyone understands what it is like to go through cancer so we can provide the best support possible. Sadly due to Covid restrictions in 2020 and currently, Al's Pals are restricted with their services and have had to adapt how they currently support patients. A couple of Al's Pals volunteers go into the cancer centre and chat to patients in the chemotherapy ward and provide refreshments. With patients not allowed visitors currently this support really helps to brighten their day. Al's Pals also provides gifts to patients sporadically through the year, again just brightening their day and making them feel that they are not alone and we care. In October 2020 Al's Pals had the pleasure of serving over 100 afternoon teas to the patients which was a real treat and is still spoken about today.
