One of my motivators for starting out in business in 2006 was to make a bigger difference in the world, but I soon realised that I could only do this one person at a time. When I changed the direction of my business in 2014 and started mentoring business authors to help them to write, publish and market their books, I realised that together we can create a ripple effect and make a bigger difference.
At Librotas, many of our clients are writing their books to help those going through something they have experienced or they’re sharing their wisdom to support others. Many of them wish to give back through their books or leave a legacy, and I’d like to do the same by giving back through Librotas.
Up until now, my charitable giving has been on a personal level. When my dad passed away in 2013, he was ably looked after during his final days at QA Hospital. At his funeral, we raised hundreds of pounds for the Rocky Appeal, now part of the Portsmouth Hospitals Trust.
Later in 2013, I joined a team of 21 ladies who braved the Inca Trail and together we raised £96,000 for Women for Women (The Genesis Research Trust).
I’ve donated on a Just Giving basis to friends and clients who are undertaking charitable activities, as I found that giving through the business wasn’t easy. Then I met Danny and Anna at Work for Good and everything has changed.
I now see this as my opportunity to give back, so I’d like to start here.
In April 2019, we'll be running the Book Marketing Challenge, and I pledge that 20% the fees will be donated to the Rowans Hospice. My dad was due to go to the hospice for his final days, but sadly never made it, and my mum volunteers for one of their charity shops.
Secondly, I'm also implementing a referral scheme. When someone refers a new client to Librotas we will donate on your behalf to a charity of your choice. For every new referral client who signs up to:
- A 121 book mentoring programme or our writing retreat - we will donate £100.
- Any online programme - we will donate 20% of the first month's sale.
