About us
My name is Chun-Chao Chiu and I work as a Paper maker, Print maker and artist. Yu-Chen Chiu, my 12 year old son, has enjoyed being a RSPB young member for a few years but has changed his interests recently. However, he enjoyed his membership and the time spent at different reserves.
He has been watching me working on my prints and sometimes I show him the printing process. During lockdown, the young artist wishes to have his own computer for his study and interests. My job position has changed so it means we have to watch our finances more carefully. It won’t stop us having a dream and work something out with our abilities. I suggested to Yu-Chen that we do a print project together and I will help him upload the print image and see if anyone is interested.
He designed two puffins, divided them into three Lino plates with 3 different colours, cut the plates, and I helped a bit with some details. I inked the plates with waterbased ink because it needs more fiddling than oil based ink. He did the registration and printed it using Barren and table spoon to press/ rub by hand double layers of Kozo paper from Taiwan. He has learnt a lot through this hands-on experience. We decided 10% of each sale will be donated to the RSPB as he enjoyed watching birds at the RSPB reserves and hope this can give a little help for some young kids might enjoy the same thing as he.
