Making a donation

The donations form on your dashboard is where the magic happens. In just a couple of minutes, you can set up a donation to your chosen charity, creating your Commercial Participation Agreement with them. Below are the questions you will need to answer on the donations form:

Which charity would you like to support?

If you haven't decided which charity to support, we offer advice on how to choose a charity here. You can view and filter all of our registered charities here.

If you want to donate to more than one charity, you will need to set up separate donations for each charity.

Would you like to publicise this support?

If your business wants to publicise your donation to your customers or clients, you will need to have a Commercial Participation Agreement in place with each charity before starting to raise your donation. This section of the donations form is where you can enter into this agreement by letting the charity know:

  • Whether you're donating a £ or a % amount and what this figure is (e.g. 10 %)
  • Whether you're donating for every sale or sales from a specific product or service (e.g. sales from of t-shirts from your Spring/Summer range)
  • Your campaign start and end dates. This is how long your Commercial Participation Agreement will be in place with the charity. We recommend running campaigns that last approximately 30 days. Quarterly campaigns are fine too but campaigns should not run for longer than 1 year

If you do not wish to publicise your donation, you can select 'No' and skip to the next section. Please be aware that you can not legally publicise this donation and it won’t show on your profile.

This donation is estimated to total (£)

We know it can be difficult to estimate how much you will donate, but if you have chosen to publicise your donation, an amount is legally required. However, this is just an estimate which can be fixed when you come to pay the donation. The charity will be told what the donation estimate is, so we recommend being realistic with this figure and maybe err on the side of caution for your first few donations. We have offered some advice on how much to donate here.

I expect this donation to be paid on

This is the date you will pay your donation. It should either be on the same day or shortly after the campaign end date. You can give yourself some time to reconcile your sales and work out the exact donation figure.

Involve your customers in this donation

You can involve your customer(s) or client(s) by choosing for them to receive email updates from Work for Good about your donation's progress, which could be a great way to strengthen your relationship. If you decide to involve your customer(s), please make sure you have their permission before entering their name(s) and email address(es).

We recommend using this feature if you're working with a small pool of customers or clients (up to 10). If you plan to publicise your giving to a wider customer or client base, it might be best to do so via your Work for Good profile, your website, or on social media and we have offered some advice on how to do this here.

Once you have set up a donation, it's vital that you add your Commercial Participation Statement to the point of sale (e.g on your website). We have explained this in full here.

On your specified payment date, you will be sent an email asking you to pay your donation and a link to do so (you will receive a reminder 7 days before your campaign end date). Payment can be made via credit or debit card or BACs.
