About us
Mary’s Meals is a global movement that sets up school feeding projects in some of the world’s poorest communities, where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. Our idea is a simple one that works. We provide one daily meal in a place of learning in order to attract chronically poor children into the classroom, where they receive an education that can, in the future, be their ladder out of poverty. We are currently providing life-changing school meals to 1,667,067 children across 19 countries.
The average worldwide cost for us to feed a child for a whole school year is just £15.90. Where Mary’s Meals is provided, there is a rise in school enrolment, attainment and attendance (read more about the impact of our work here). Wherever possible, we use locally grown food to support the local economy and smallholder farmers. We work extremely hard to keep our running costs low and ensure that at least 93% of donations goes directly to charitable activities. This is made possible due to our army of dedicated volunteers – including more than 80,000 in Malawi alone – who carry out lots of little acts of love on behalf of Mary’s Meals.
Mary’s Meals’ vision is that every child in the world should be able to receive one good meal every day in a place of education. Working together with people who share our ideals, we believe that this vision can be achieved in this world where there is enough food for everyone.
