About us
More than 103,000 16 - 25 year olds approached their local authority last year because they were either homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless.
Tackling this confronting number is End Youth Homelessness (EYH), a UK-wide movement of local charities working with over 30,000 young people each year. EYH helps charities collaborate to increase awareness, share experience and generate voluntary income to deliver services which transform the lives of homeless young people.
THE ISSUE:
54% of young people are forced out of their home due to family breakdown.
Young people become homeless every day for everyday reasons; regardless of a young person’s background. Kicked out because they are LGBTQ+, abandoned due to a mental health problem, or discarded because a parent has a new partner who doesn’t want them around.
Homelessness has a devastating impact on young people’s lives.
Let down by their parents and forced into unstable living situations, youth homelessness can be deeply traumatic. Young people are left with a multitude of complex problems; poor education, no support networks and a lack of independent living skills are often compounded by debt and shattered mental health. If left unsupported, these problems become crippling barriers to independence for the rest of their lives.
80% have mental health problems. 60% have physical health problems. 18% have attempted suicide.
WHAT EYH DO:
All homeless young people have the potential to turn their lives around. They can go to university, get a good job or even start their own business. They can all have a happy and independent life, if they get the right help at the right time. The first step in ending youth homelessness is providing a young person with a safe place to call home. From this secure base, we can help young people overcome the barriers they face. We do this in three key ways:
1) Getting and staying healthy 2) Accessing Education, Employment & Training 3) Moving on to independent accommodation
WHAT YOUR COMPANY CAN DO:
It costs £25 per night to provide a young person with a safe place to call home and the healthcare, education and employment support they need to get their lives on track.
PARTNERING WITH EYH:
EYH’s unique structure means your employees will have a national cause to rally behind, whilst also directly supporting a local grassroots charity that help the most vulnerable young people in the area in which they live and work. The partnership would be managed by a dedicated Partnership Manager who will get to know your staff and design a bespoke calendar of activity for the duration of the partnership with both national and local opportunities.
LOCAL:
All EYH Member charities have extensive events calendars to engage your staff nationally. Sporting Challenges, Pub Quizzes, Abseils and Fundraisers Dinners, all our Member’s events are listed on the website: EYH.org.uk/get-involved/
NATIONAL:
Sleep Out: Your staff will be challenged to take part in our flagship event Sleep Out; with 16 events and 2,500 participants nationally, are your employees brave enough to swap their bed for a sleeping bag in November?
Summer Challenge Event: EYH will design a bespoke challenge event just for your employees. Recent partner events have included, Coast to Coast, London to Paris & National Three Peaks.
EYH will also provide a full calendar of in-office fundraising ideas, volunteer opportunities and access to our member charities' ticketed events, like Centrepoint’s Ultimate Pub Quiz hosted by Jonathon Ross!
THANK YOU!
