No one should have no one to turn to
Who do you turn to when times get tough?
Your partner, perhaps. Or your family and closest friends. The people you can rely on. The people who are always there for you.
Imagine if you had no one to turn to.
No one to ask when you just don't know what to do next. No one to be there for you when you're facing a crisis. No one to talk to when you're feeling desperately lonely.
Over 2.5 million older people in the UK feel they have no one to turn to for help and support.
For millions of older people, this is the reality. Every day. Even on Christmas.
At Age UK Richmond, we believe no one should have no one to turn to. Not at Christmas. Not ever.
With your help we can work to make sure no one struggles without the support they need.
Here in the Borough of Richmond upon Thames we’re working as hard as we can all year round to help older people face the different challenges that growing older brings.
Whether it’s through our expert information and advice, our home services or just having someone to turn when things get too tough to cope with on your own, Age UK Richmond provides crucial companionship, advice and support to thousands of people every year.
How you can help
We want to make sure that we can continue to be here for those who need us the most, but we can’t do any of this without your help.
If you want to help change the lives of older people in this Borough, please call 020 8878 3073 to find out how you can make a difference. You can donate through our website on a one-off or regular basis, or give your time to volunteer.
With your support, we can keep working to make sure that no one has no one to turn to as they get older.
Age UK Richmond provides a range of services and your gift will go where the need is greatest.
The Big Knit is back!
Would you like to knit tiny hats and help raise money for Age UK Richmond? It’s fun and easy to join in, and you’ll be part of a huge team of knitters helping us to raise funds for a great cause.
What is The Big Knit?
It’s a joint campaign between the national charity Age UK and Innocent Drinks to raise funds to help vulnerable older people. Over the last 10 years or so, knitters have raised around £2million for Age UK.
Innocent Drinks gives Age UK Richmond 25p for each mini hat sold (on a smoothie bottle), so we want to knit as many as possible.
How you can help Age UK Richmond
We are aiming to collect 5,000 hats by July 2019 so:
Get yourself some needles, wool and your favourite chair.
Choose from one of the many patterns available or make your own hat.
Send us a pledge to say how many hats you or your knitting group are planning to make.
Package up your hats and send or deliver them to us – or give us a call and we’ll come to collect them.
Please send or deliver your hats to:
Sue Hollins: Age UK Richmond, Suite 301, 3rd Floor, Parkway House, Sheen Lane, East Sheen, London, SW14 8LS or alternatively you can drop off at one of our Social Centres (see website for details)
If you don’t want to or are unable to knit, but still want to help:
We are accepting donations of wool and knitting needles.
Spread the word about our knitting campaign – use #thebigknit2018 on social media.
What to do next
We'd love you to make a pledge on our website to let us know how many hats you can knit. If you need to contact us about patterns, donations or completed hats, please call us on 020 8744 1965 or email email@example.com
Look out for our knitting tea parties and Knitathons during 2018/19 and come along!
