Work for Good and Movember

November is an understandably busy time of year for our friends at The Movember Foundation! The month of action sees a huge drive to raise funds and awareness for all the dads, brothers, sons and friends who are at greater risk of long-term health issues, including specific cancers and mental health problems, than their female counterparts.

Work for Good and Movember

The Movember Foundation is a recent Work for Good member, having joined in September 2018. Here’s a snapshot of the brilliant work they do and how Work for Good business members can help their cause.

What is The Movember Foundation’s mission?

We’re the leading charity changing the face of men’s health. We’re addressing some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide. We know what works for men, and how to find and fund the most innovative research to have both a global and local impact.

By 2030 we’ll reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%.

Why men?

Men experience worse longer-term health than women and die on average six years earlier. Prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years. Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50. Three-quarters of suicides are men. Poor mental health leads to half a million men taking their own life every year. That’s one every minute.

Across the world, men die an average of six years younger than women, and for reasons that are largely preventable… which means that it doesn’t have to be that way. We can all take action to ensure men live healthier, happier and longer lives.

What do you do?

We’re funding ground-breaking projects all over the world; to date, we have funded over 1,200 programmes around the globe, all with the simple aim of stopping men from dying too young. Our work focusses on the following key areas to ensure we make a difference to men everywhere:

Every penny raised, through Work for Good or other avenues, is so important. With half the world to support, it’s a huge task — but one that we’re proud to be tackling head-on.

What difference does support from businesses make to your cause?

We cannot achieve our goals without building a movement of supporters; including individuals, communities and companies. It is every whisker, drop of sweat, Mo-ment hosted and donation made that brings us a step closer to all men living longer, happier, healthier lives.

We know that Movember is a great tool to engage employees in not only their health but in a fun and morale-boosting campaign.

Work for Good makes it easy for us to get our cause in front of more small and medium-sized businesses who often have the motivation to give, but don’t have time for the additional admin that comes with making donations directly.

How will you be asking SME’s to support you throughout your Movember campaign through Work for Good?

We love the innovative ways that SME’s come up with to support Movember. This year, we are asking people to Move up to 60km this Movember. That’s 10kms for every year the average man stands to lose from his life — for largely preventable reasons. By putting one foot in front of the other they can change the face of men’s health.

We’re also looking forward to receiving donations from business members through Work for Good. Perhaps business members could donate a set amount per employee or client who takes place in the Move up to 60km? or they could donate a % of each invoice generated through a male client throughout November?

Being a member of Work for Good gives businesses the opportunity to get involved with Movember by doing what works for them, and we get to receive brilliant donations, which means more money towards helping men living longer. It’s a win–win situation!
