Rafiki Thabo Foundation

Rafiki Thabo supports individuals and their communities in Africa through education that embraces their differing abilities. We enable access to education for young people, who cannot otherwise afford the fees, including those living with disabilities, through our scholarship programme. Empowered through education they can reach their full potential, secure meaningful better paid employment and initiate positive change in their communities.

About us

Our vision is that young people, including those living with disabilities, will be empowered through education to enable them to reach their full potential and initiate positive change in their communities. We do this by enabling access to education, working through local committees made up of community leaders. Our programmes are active in Kenya, Lesotho and Uganda.

Through our scholars programme, we provide bursaries to bright young minds who have gained a place at school/university but whose families have run out of the means to pay their fees. Through our school meals programme, ‘Eat Well to Learn’, we provide at least 70 of the very poorest students with lunch each day at our partner school in Uganda. For many, this is their only daily meal. We also support the development of school infrastructure. Recent projects include re-equipping an IT lab, constructing pig sties and chicken coops to generate income for the schools, electrification of classrooms, and the renovation of dormitories. Through our merger with ACACIA in 2021, we have been able to add a fourth, more holistic approach to our support of children living with disabilities, working with partner organisations in Kenya.
