About us

At the Youth Adventure Trust we believe that spending time outdoors and doing adventurous activities can have a massive impact on somebody's life. The positive effects of challenging yourself, learning to trust others and work as part of a team are immeasurable.

All of the young people on the 3 school year Youth Adventure programme are vulnerable in some way and many face challenges in their daily lives. Those challenges may include self-esteem issues, rural isolation, chaotic home lives, bullying, being on the brink of exclusion from school, having no positive role models or living in poverty. They are unlikely to ever have those opportunities unless we make it possible.

People living in deprived communities are 6 times less likely to have any experience of outdoor activities, yet 90% of people say they feel better when they are outdoors. The programme of outdoor activity and adventure helps build confidence, resilience and life skills to help them face their own personal challenges. We know that this hard to reach group is at risk of making choices which can negatively affect their future lives and prospects. We know that we transform lives.

Our specially designed Youth Adventure Programme runs over 3 school years, Years 7-9, and includes 3 residential camps and 8 different one-day activities. The young people are supported throughout their Youth Adventure journey by their dedicated Programme Manager.

We also offer a Mentoring Scheme for selected young people who have completed the main programme, but are identified as in need of further, more individualised support. And all young people who have completed the main programme are able to apply for a bursary to allow them to pursue further interests, opportunities or activities after the programme.

Our Youth Adventure programme is free for the young people and we provide all the kit that they need to take part. However, each place costs the Youth Adventure Trust £3,600 over 3 school years. We receive no government funding and rely upon the support of generous individuals, businesses, trusts and community groups to deliver our services.

We would like to invite to join us on our journey to help more young people fulfil their potential through outdoor adventure. Your support would help us to provide necessary staff, volunteer support, resources and kit to make a life-changing difference to a young person.

Thank you.
