Cystic fibrosis is one of the UK’s most common life limiting genetic conditions, which affects over 10,400 people across the UK.
You are born with CF and cannot catch it later in life, but 1 in 25 people carry the faulty gene that causes it. The condition slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system and staying well is a daily battle, requiring hours of treatments and up to 60 pills a day. There is no cure for cystic fibrosis and last year, half of everyone who lost their life was under 31.
At the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, we believe this needs to change. Our vision is a world where being born with CF no longer means a lifelong burden of care and an early death. To make this a reality, we focus on two key areas:
For today, we support the thousands of families living in the shadow of CF right now through our free information, advice and welfare services, including our vital Helpline.
For a better tomorrow, we invest in cutting-edge genetic research to beat CF for good and bring forward the day when CF stops destroying the lives of thousands of families across the UK.
