From its two Grade I listed buildings, which are also scheduled Ancient Monuments, to the only site-specific public sculpture by Sir Anthony Caro in the UK, Poole Museum is significant and worthy of your support. The museum's main building, originally a Victorian grain warehouse, was once the headquarters of blossoming British aviation during the reign of the sea plane.
Poole Museum has a vast collection, including a remarkably preserved Iron Age log boat, the likes of which have rarely been seen elsewhere, as well as possibly the second-most-notable Mediaeval shipwreck after the Mary Rose - complete with exquisitely preserved carved rudder. Other highlights include Roman glass, priceless paintings, the Poole Pottery collection, and custody of Poole Borough's civic regalia.
Poole Museum works with partners in the Wessex Museums Partnership to grow the influence and attraction of arts and culture. Every year, Poole Museum welcomes temporary exhibitions, drawing thousands of guests to see art, for free, that might otherwise never visit the Wessex region. Exhibitions are growing in scale and ambition every year.
In addition to all this, Poole Museum, along with its dedicated team of staff and Culture Volunteers, works closely with schools, charities, the elderly, the disabled, and other community groups to make sure arts, heritage, and culture really are for everyone.
