Plastic Oceans UK have been experts on plastic pollution for nearly a decade. This began with our award-winning documentary A Plastic Ocean, lauded by Sir David Attenborough “one of the most important films of our time”. Now, we’re solving the plastic crisis through our science, sustainability and education programmes.
We believe that education is essential to solving the plastic crisis. Plastic Oceans UK have a global view of the issue and have worked with scientists for 10 years, out on the ocean and in the laboratories. We have witnessed and documented the disturbing consequences of ingested plastic in seabirds, turtles, marine mammals and fish. And we want to pass that knowledge on to as many as we can.
Science has always been at the heart of what we do. Our team in the UK has always believed it is essential that any information released by our Foundation is backed by peer-reviewed science. Through our relationships with the world’s leading scientists we can fund reports into emerging solutions, translate that new knowledge into education materials, and influence Government policy to take action.
We also acknowledge the essential role of companies in aligning business with the natural world. Whether in products or packaging, plastic is used by a broad range of commercial organisations, producing products for consumers and business. We help businesses adapt to their customer’s demands to have less plastic, in turn reducing individuals’ plastic footprints.
Through changing attitudes, behaviours and practices on the use and value of plastics, we can stop plastic pollution reaching the ocean within a generation.
