About us

In London, one of the wealthiest cities in the world, more than 25% of the population face food insecurity and 700,000 children live in poverty . Monthly, an estimated 9 million meals are missed by Londoners experiencing food poverty.

At the same time, it is estimated that 33% of all the food produced for human consumption goes to waste . In London, surplus food from manufacturers, retailers, restaurants and the hospitality industry that could create 13 million meals is being sent to landfill, serving as a major contributor to climate change .

City Harvest helps put surplus food to good use in a sustainable way by distributing to organisations that nourish vulnerable Londoners. We are the largest London-based food redistribution charity delivering more than 80,000 nutritious meals each week, free of charge, to community food programmes that feed the homeless, individuals and families in transition, women in crises, refugees, children and the elderly.

We work with 130 food donors to provide meals to more than 300 community programs. We have already served more than 7 million meals to the hungry, helping to transform their lives, improve their health, enable vulnerable individuals to gain employment, and help children to perform better academically and fulfil their potential.

Not only this, but the food that we rescue would otherwise be sent landfill where it would release methane, one of the most dangerous greenhouse gases contributing to climate change. So far, our work has prevented more than 11,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases from polluting the environment.

Food wasted is a social, humanitarian and environmental concern and City Harvest has a practical solution that is tackling all three.
