We are Bloodwise (soon becoming Blood Cancer UK). Our mission is to beat blood cancer.
Blood cancer is the third largest cancer killer in the UK; it claims more lives than either breast or prostate cancer. It is the most common cancer among children and young people, and two thirds of people diagnosed with the most common type of leukaemia do not survive for more than one year after diagnosis. Yet many people have never heard of it.
Bloodwise exists to change these facts.
Working in partnership with our ground-breaking researchers at leading hospitals and universities, we deliver vital research into all types of blood cancer, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. We provide essential support and information services to combat the isolation that being diagnosed with a lesser-known cancer brings. With our network of volunteer patient Ambassadors, we advocate on behalf of our patients’ needs in government and the NHS.
And we really are changing the world for people with blood cancer - when we began in 1960, only 1 in 10 children survived the most common type of childhood leukaemia. Today, 8 in 10 children do. However, we still have so much work to do. We won't stop until we reach a day where no one dies from blood cancer.
