Volunteer Glasgow

Volunteer Glasgow supports people and organisations to volunteer. Volunteering connects individuals to each other and to their communities; it improves well-being, develops skills and helps people feel more confident. We make those connections happen by matching up charities and volunteers, connecting old and young people to befrienders and by advertising volunteering opportunities across Glasgow's amazing third sector.

Games For Good Meets its £1000 Goal for The Young Persons Befriending Service!

Games For Good Meets its £1000 Goal for The Young Persons Befriending Service!

From November 5th to Tuesday the 3rd of December, streamers from across Glasgow and the West of Scotland took part in #GamesForGood, a fundraising campaign to benefit Volunteer Glasgow's Young Persons Befriending Service. Supported by local store R-Cade (a favourite of young people and their matched volunteer befrienders for weekly outings), Volunteer Glasgow worked with some amazing gamers on Twitch to stream a huge variety of games, have a laugh and take donations for the service. At the time of writing, some streamers are still counting up the total raised, but even waiting for some final numbers to come in, we can happily say that we met our goal of raising £1,000!

This £1,000 will be used to pay for 50 befriending visits in 2020, and a day-out chosen by the young people and their befrienders. We've been overwhelmed by the positivity and support everyone has shown the campaign, particularly at a time where some of the grant funding that runs our services is uncertain.

If you want to chip in to help the Young Persons Befriending Service, just £10 pays for activities on a befriending visit to a young person: you can donate to us through Work for Good right now! In the meantime, you can check out the Twitch stream we ran with R-Cade last night on #GivingTuesday to wrap up the Games For Good campaign: https://www.twitch.tv/rcadeglasgow
