About us

Redthread's programmes empower young people to overcome the challenges they face in their lives. We help young people with the skills, knowledge, self-belief and support networks that they need to take agency of their own health and wellbeing, make safe, healthy decisions, and become positive, empowered members of society.

Our Youth Violence Intervention Programme embeds specialist, trauma-informed youth workers in hospital emergency departments. There they meet any young person between 11 and 25 who has experienced violence or exploitation. By capitalising on the 'teachable moment' we are able to support these young people to consider changes they may wish to make within their lives, and pursue positive change. The service is unique and individual to each young person, but we often support young people to engage with professional or statutory services that can help them, support them to find safer housing or a job, and encourage them to set goals for the future. The programme interrupts the victim-perpetrator cycle of violence, halts the spread of violence within communities, and leads to fewer young people being hurt.
