About us

Katherine Low Settlement is a charity that has been serving Battersea and the wider Wandsworth community since 1924. We are dedicated to building stronger communities and enable people to challenge and find ways out of poverty and isolation.

We run a range of our own community projects to support children and their families, older people and refugee communities. We recognise there are many other expert local charities and community groups working with, for example, disabled people and mental health users. We invite them to operate from our premises, so together as partners we can meet the diverse needs of the local communities of Wandsworth.

We have a strong track record of delivering fresh, vibrant and relevant services responsive to the changing needs of the local community. We are the largest multi-purpose charity in the area, supporting 1,100+ people and 45+ local charities each week, with 200+ volunteers and 30 staff.

We are driven by our vision for an inclusive society where local people achieve their potential together. We bring that vision to reality by fostering and empowering local communities to fight poverty and reduce isolation in three ways. 1. Direct Services: running our own community projects to support children, young people and their families, older people and refugee communities. 2. Indirect Services: partnering with, offering premises and organisational development support to, expert local charities who work with, for example, disabled people and mental health users. 3. Campaigning: against intolerance and injustice with local people.

Our distinctive approach is to invest in long-term, strong relationships. We work 'with' people, listening to and being led by what they want to achieve. We focus on strengthening social bonds, increasing confidence, and providing practical support, e.g. supporting children's education, integration through English (ESOL) classes, volunteering, social care for grandparents, reducing isolation and improving well-being.
