Global Clubfoot Initiative

GCI is a growing global umbrella organisation for individuals and organisations working to treat children born with clubfoot in low- and middle-income countries. We enable collaboration and share best practice and resources amongst our members and together with them work towards the common goal of ending preventable disability as a result of untreated clubfoot.

About us

Around 174,000 children – 1 in every 800 - are born with clubfoot globally every year. Clubfoot is a congenital deformity in which one or both feet are turned in and downward; untreated it leads to life-long disability. Clubfoot is relatively easy and inexpensive to treat effectively; disability as a result of clubfoot has virtually been eradicated in high-income countries. However, 90% of the global cases of clubfoot are in low and middle-income countries; less than 1 in 5 children born with clubfoot access treatment.

GCI is an umbrella organisation that brings together individuals and organisations working to treat children with clubfoot in low and middle income countries. We launched Run Free 2030 (http://globalclubfoot.com/runfree2030/), a global strategy to end clubfoot disability. Our aim is that by 2030, over 70% of children with clubfoot around the world will access the treatment they need.

Your donation will support our work to deliver this global strategy, through global advocacy, education and collaboration.
