Beat (formerly Eating Disorders Association)

Beat is the UK’s eating disorder charity. We began life in 1989 as the first national charity for people with eating disorders because of a merger of two local charities. Called the Eating Disorders Association, we have grown and developed over time to become Beat. We exist to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders.

About us

We estimate that eating disorders affect 1.25 million people in the UK of all ages, genders and backgrounds – though we fear the real number of people affected is much higher. These serious mental illnesses ruin and too often take lives. But there is hope and we’re determined to ensure every person gets the support they need and deserve.
